Ms. Brown was a former foster youth and had been experiencing homelessness with her 10 month old child. At the time she called 211 she was also 2 months pregnant. 211 LA connected her to a Family Solutions Center and provided her with transportation to emergency housing. Ms. Brown now has a case manager, a pending Section 8 voucher, and anticipates being placed into permanent housing soon.
When a family calls 211 LA needing immediate help finding a safe place to sleep for a night, we do everything we can to connect them to a Family Solutions Center (FSC) and get them immediately housed and enrolled in case management. 211 LA's Homeless Services Care Coordination program connects thousands of families and pregnant women to emergency housing and case management every year through the Coordinated Entry System for Families.
However, if a family calls after the FSC's business hours and has no alternative to sleeping outside or in other unsafe conditions, 211 LA has a limited number of vouchers to motels to provide emergency housing to families and pregnant women. Once we find them safe housing for the night, they often need a ride to get there.
That's where you can help by providing more families with rides to safe housing or from the housing to a Family Solution Center the next day. It makes a huge difference to families that are in dire need.
