Public Counsel will be holding a discharge upgrade clinic on May 11, 2019. In this clinic veterans will meet with a pro bono attorney who will help them fill out the discharge upgrade application, as well as draft a declaration as to what happened in the service, why they got the discharge they did, and why they are entitled to an upgrade. At the end of the clinic, CVA can submit the forms for the veteran. The veteran would be representing themselves pro per (no attorney representing them) on the submission of their application.

This event is a great chance for vets with unfavorable discharges (OTH, Bad Conduct, Dishonorable) to get their discharge upgraded to access veteran beneifts, and

Attend an informational session on corrections of Military records and upgrading less than fully honorable discharges, followed by an individual consultation with an attorney. Includes a presentation on "knowing your rights". Bring your DD-214 forms.

Featuring healing activities, guest speakers, lunch (vegan and vegetarian options available) and more, this event is for woman veterans only in honor of their unique contributions and sacrifices to our nation. The L.A. County Department of Military & Veterans Affairs (MVA) will host a day of education, awareness and resources for military women, veterans and their families, and announce a historic partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (DMH) and WNBA team the L.A. Sparks. 

A special Women-in-Leadership panel will be held to discuss barriers around transition from military to civilian life. A Procovery Mixer, meditation, massage, Reiki, make-overs and a pop-up clothing shop will be featured during the afternoon. All women veterans and veteran supporters are welcome. 

A wide variety of resources will be provided, including:

  • Assistance with veteran benefits
  • Housing
  • Employment
  • Mental health and medical services
  • Legal aid
  • Approximately thirty-five vendors will provide additional resources.
