A criminal conviction can keep an individual hungry and homeless as the sentence follows them for the rest of their life even after the sentence has been served. It is said there are currently “8 million Californians with criminal convictions.”  On November 20th San Pedro Mental Health hopes to help some of these individuals break down employment barriers by hosting a Hunger & Homeless Awareness Week Legal Clinic that will consist of:

-LA COUNTY PUBLIC DEFENDERS Criminal Record Clearing Project will process expungements and Prop 47 applications.

-LA CITY ATTORNEYS HEART team will assist individuals to reinstate suspended drivers licenses.

-LA CITY DEPT OF TRANSPORTATION will do the same in helping homeless individuals work off unpaid parking tickets through community service program.

-LAHSA will be at the ready to help identify these homeless participants by entering them into the CES HMIS Clarity system and providing housing resources.

-LA COUNTY CHILD SUPPORT SERVICES will help parents recalculate payments and reinstate suspended drivers licenses.

-PROVIDENCE will also be present to process Cal Fresh and MediCal applications.

We hope you will help us spread the word to help homeless individuals get back to work. This event is free and open to anyone who is currently experiencing homelessness or are at risk of becoming homeless. Please RSVP by calling or sending a text to 213 334-5234
