Provider: LOS ANGELES COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN AND FAMILY SERVICES - RESOURCE FAMILY RECRUITMENT AND APPROVAL DIVISION

The division provides adoption and related services for birth parents, adoptees and adoptive families. This population includes birth parents who are considering relinquishment, children and youth age 0 to 20.9 in need of permanency, and potential adoptive/foster or "Resource" parents in Los Angeles county. Services include adoption counseling for birth parents considering relinquishment, for children preparing for adoptive placement, and for resource parents considering adoption; adoption evaluation/placement, adoption information, adoptive family recruitment, foster parent/family recruitment and foster home placement. There are no geographic restrictions.

All families approved by DCFS are universally prepared as "Resource Families" and are able to foster and/or adopt a child. Once a child in foster care is placed, the Resource Family will receive foster care funding. Additional funding may be available for Resource Families who are specially trained to care for children and young adults with intensive needs.

Placement into resource families is done for all children in DCFS care who are in need of out-of-home placement. Special emphasis is provided on children who are in foster care and cannot safely be reunited with their birth parents due to neglect or abuse.

Post-adoption support services are available for adult adoptees or adult "freed" children (those relinquished for adoption who were never adoptively placed), birth parents, and adoptive parents.

Financial aid may be available to resource families who adopt, through the Adoption Assistance Program (AAP). Adopted youth are eligible to receive AAP benefits from the date of adoptive placement through age 18, with the benefit amount eligible for reassessment at minimum every 2 years. Additional funding may The Resource Family Helpline assists current Resource families with problems related to their foster or adoption payments, Medi-Cal issues, and other needs.
