Provider: HOUSING AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES

The agency administers a number of subsidized housing programs for low-income and very low-income families, seniors, and people who have disabilities who live in the City of Los Angeles. Services are provided at several sites in the City of Los Angeles. The services provided include Section 8 certificates and vouchers, 14 public housing sites, a shelter plus care program, and WorkSource Satellite Centers which provide a variety of social services. The agency also provides a fraud reporting hotline for employees. Services are restricted to residents of Los Angeles City.

PUBLIC HOUSING
The agency provides low cost apartments for very low income families, seniors, and people who have disabilities who live in the City of Los Angeles. People who live in Los Angeles County can apply for public housing. Eligible people apply for subsidized housing and are placed on the agency's waiting list. When their name reaches the top of the list, they are offered apartments at up to three sites and must make a selection.

The rent for each apartment is based on 30% of the family's income. Recipients of public housing are reassessed annually to insure that they continue to meet the agency's requirements for service.

SECTION 8

SHELTER PLUS CARE PROGRAM This program is designed to promote permanent housing with supportive service to persons with disabilities who are homeless, coming from the streets or emergency shelters. To be eligible for the program, a person must be homeless, with a mental illness, substance abuse problem, HIV/AIDS or a dual diagnosis, and must be referred by the community-based organization which provides supportive services under contract with the Housing Authority's Shelter Plus Care program.
