The agency provides substance use disorder services to families, pregnant women, women with children and youth who live in South Central Los Angeles. Services include alcohol and drug use disorder counseling, education and prevention; alcohol and drug use disorder day treatment; central intake and assessment for alcohol and drug use disorders; and comprehensive outpatient alcohol and drug use disorder treatment programs. Some geographic restrictions apply.

The programs include ARK, CASC, and Genesis Family Day Treatment Program.

The ARK program is an outpatient program for men and women and their families. It also accepts drug-court referrals and General Relief participants. The ARK/Compton Drug Court site accepts only referrals from the drug court. Services include individual, group, and family counseling, in-home visits, parenting education, early childhood education, child care, comprehensive outpatient substance abuse treatment and vocational training. Families must agree to participate in the program for five years. The program is also a site for the Healthy Start Program. Healthy Start provides intensive case management for substance abusing pregnant women and parenting women with children ages 0 to 2.

This county Community Assessment Service Center (CASC) provides central intake/assessment for alcohol and/or drug use disorder for SPA 6 residents. Staff use an automated assessment tool to determine addiction severity and screen the participant's eligibility for specifically funded county-contracted alcohol and drug programs. Supportive services may include substance use disorder education, vocational rehabilitation, transportation and referrals to other community services.

Eden is a six to twelve months comprehensive outpatient alcohol and drug use disorder treatment program for dually diagnosed women and their children. Services include individual, group and family counseling, alcohol, drug and HIV/AIDS education, child care, parenting and parent interaction classes, mental health, and self-help groups. Clients attend the program on-site five days per week and receive a home visit once per week. Eden also has a mental health program for children who are referred from foster care HUB and have full MediCal coverage.

Genesis Family Day Treatment Program is a twelve to eighteen month alcohol and drug use disorder day treatment program for pregnant women and women with children. Services include individual, group and family counseling, child care, alcohol, drug and HIV/AIDS education, child development resources, parenting and parent/child interaction classes, self-help groups, transportation, vocational counseling; and referral to community services. Clients participate in the program six days per week for six hours per day.

The agency provides aftercare for all graduates of Shields For Families. Services include case management, counseling, support groups and family activities. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call for an interview. Assessment is done through the agency's administrative site. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE Fees are set on a sliding scale that ranges from $0 to $30; Medi-Cal in the Eden program. No client is turned away due to lack of income.
