The California Hispanic Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (CHCADA) provides substance use disorder services that are targeted, but not restricted, to the Spanish-speaking community. Services include alcohol education/prevention; drug use disorder education/prevention; central intake/assessment for alcohol use disorder, and drug use disorder, for adults and adolescents; comprehensive outpatient alcohol use disorder and drug use disorder treatment programs; outpatient counseling, mutual support groups, specialized information and referral, relapse prevention programs for youth; technical assistance for service providers, and youth services. Geographic restrictions apply for some services.

This county Community Assessment Service Center (CASC) provides central intake/assessment for alcohol and/or drug abuse. Staff use an automated assessment tool to determine addiction severity and screen the participant's eligibility for specifically funded county-contracted alcohol and drug programs. Supportive services may include substance abuse education, vocational rehabilitation, transportation and referrals to other community services. The agency provides outpatient recovery services for Los Angeles County residents. Services for adults include an individual recovery plan, group sessions, individual problem solving sessions, sober recreational activities, and mandatory AA twelve-step meeting attendance. AA twelve-step and Alanon meetings are held weekly for people involved in the programs and are open to the public. The San Gabriel Valley Center refers to local AA twelve-step meeting.

Youth services for adolescents under 18 include Project Adelante, which provides individual counseling, educational and peer support groups. Teen groups are available for adolescents who have alcohol-related problems themselves or within their families. Youth may be referred by the Probation Department, schools, parents or agencies.

The agency also provides alcohol education and prevention for people of all ages through community presentations, meetings and literature. The presentations are designed to assist agencies, groups and the larger community.

The agency also provides technical assistance for professionals about alcohol related issues. The education program includes presentations and workshops for community groups and schools about alcohol abuse and available intervention services. The technical assistance includes presentations and training workshops which provide program planning, proposal development, prevention education and training. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call for information or to apply; an appointment is required. Call the Central Intake line for all substance abuse services; assessment is required before services are approved. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE Fees are set on a sliding scale that ranges from $0 to $120. There is a $20 registration fee for the outpatient recovery program. There are no fees for community education and information and referral.
