COVID-19 Treatment

Individuals who are at high risk for severe illness from Covid-19 can get medication to help prevent hospitalization; this includes adults age 65 and older, and people of any age with certain medical conditions. Medications must be prescribed by a healthcare provider, and should be taken as soon as possible after symptoms appear.

The federal Test to Treat program allows people to go to participating pharmacies and clinics to get tested for Covid-19 and, if positive and eligible to receive Covid-19 oral antiviral treatment, receive free medication at the same visit. For more information, please visit

APPLICATION PROCEDURE Individuals are encouraged to contact their doctor, visit a Test to Treat program site, or contact the Public Health Telehealth line Monday through Sunday, 8:00am to 8:30pm at (833) 540-0473. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There is no fee for Covid-19 medication, but some treatment facilities may charge for administering the drug. Individuals should check with their insurance plan or ask their treatment facility if there are any fees. There are no fees for Medicare or Medi-Cal recipients.
