Crime Victim/Witness Counseling
Provider: SAN MARTIN DE PORRES COUNSELING CENTER INC
The center provides victims of crime support for individuals who have had a traumatic experience as a result of being the victim or witness of crime within the state of California. An individual may be eligible for treatment at no cost if the crime is reported to the police and/or sheriff, the Highway Patrol, or other appropriate law enforcement agency.
Eligibility includes:
- Men or women who sustained a physical or emotional injury as a direct result of a crime.
- People who are legally dependent upon the victim for support
- People who are related to or have a close relationship with the victim and were present during the crime.
- People who are related to or have a close relationship with the victim and whose treatment or presence during treatment is medically required for the successful treatment of the victim.
- Family members who incur emotional injury as a result of the crime.
People who assume legal responsibility for the medical or burial expense of a deceased victim.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Call to apply. An appointment is required. In addition, victims of crime must file a claim with the police or the L A County District Attorney or the L A City Attorney. VOC claims are made through the District Attorney's office; see the separate entries L A County District Attorney Victim-Witness Assistance Program and L A City Attorney Victim/Witness Assistance Program.
