Disaster Related Cash Grants

Disaster Related Cash Grants

Provider: UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY - FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY - REGION IX

The agency provides disaster services for eligible people of all ages during a declared disaster who are in Los Angeles County. FEMA regional offices work directly with the states to help plan for disaster, develop mitigation programs, monitor developing or actual disaster incidents and implement federal response activities under the Federal Response Plan. During a Presidentially-declared disaster, the FEMA Tele-Registration hotline becomes available to people who have sustained damage and who want to apply for financial and housing assistance. In cooperation with local jurisdictions, the agency may set up one-stop information centers and a FEMA information helpline for people who have sustained damage during a disaster. There are no geographic restrictions.

The agency's disaster assistance services include disaster housing assistance, individual and family grant programs, disaster unemployment assistance (which is handled through EDD) and crisis counseling (in coordination with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health). Information about additional programs including Small Business Administration loans, tax assistance, farm assistance, insurance information, legal assistance, Social Security benefits, veterans benefits, consumer services, aging services and emergency assistance may be offered through other agencies at the recovery centers. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call the hotline for information or walk in the disaster centers for information or to apply for service after a disaster. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees for services.
