Los Angeles City 2021 Covid-19 Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP):

The Emergency Rental Assistance Program was created to assist residential renters who have been unable to pay their rent as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Los Angeles Housing and Community Investment Department (HCIDLA) is charged with the implementation of the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP).

The program is open to all renters within the city of Los Angeles, regardless of immigration status.

SEPTEMBER 1ST 2021 NEW APPLICATION OPENING

City of Los Angeles renters and landlords will be able to apply for assistance through the State program starting at 7am on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at https://housing.ca.gov/. Residents can also call the appointment call center at 833-687-0967 if they need help filling out an application.

PREVIOUSLY SUBMITTED HCIDLA APPLICATIONS

Information below applies to renters who have already applied to the City's program via HCIDLA. Visit https://hcidla.lacity.org/
to check the status of applications which were submitted to HCIDLA March 31, 2021 and prior.

The program is required to give priority to paying past-due, unpaid rent. If selected, the program can pay 80% of a tenant's past-due rent for the period of April 1, 2020 through March 31, 2021, but only if the landlord agrees to waive the remaining 20%.

If a landlord does not agree to these terms, the program can pay 25% of the tenant's past-due, unpaid rent, as well as up to 25% of the tenant's upcoming future rent, for 3 months.
