Disease/Disability Information ( Public Health Issues )

The hospital provides health education on a variety of health-related topics. Services are provided in Spanish and English by trained health promoters "Promotoras de Salud". Classes are usually one hour in length, and they are held in community locations such as schools and churches. There are no geographic restrictions.

Services in English and Spanish include Disease/Disability information on subjects such as Diabetes, nutrition for pregnancy, nutrition classes, and STD's.

Classes in Spanish Only include Disease/Disability information on Arthritis, blood pressure/hypertension and Cholesterol, cancer, child abuse, depression, home safety, immunization, sexuality, and Tuberculosis.

In addition, there are several multi-session health programs: a Chronic Disease Self-Management Program for people suffering from any chronic disease that provides information and support for participants to be encouraged to take contol and responsibility for managing their health issues.

There is a 5-week course for Diabetes Self-management for adults diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. Heart Health is a 5-week nutrition-oriented program for adults age 18 and up who have diabetes, high blood pressure or cholesterol, or who are obese.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call for information; appointments are required for the multi-session health programs. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees.
