Disease/Disability Information ( Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis )
Provider: MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY ASSOCIATION
This is a voluntary health organization which provides information about health services for people of all ages in Los Angeles County. People who are undocumented are not eligible for service. Services include disease/disability information about ALS, Muscular Dystrophy, Myasthenia Gravis and related life threatening diseases, research, medical equipment repairs and loans, mobility aids, summer camps, and referrals to the MDA network of clinics. There are no geographic restrictions.
The agency's National Equipment Program helps provide good-condition, gently used wheelchairs and other medical equipment including shower chairs, hospital beds, walkers, canes, communication devices and similar items, when available and feasible. The local Los Angeles office also accepts equipment donations and can make minor repairs. When items are not available, the agency can identify other resources that may be available.
Staff will call individuals to assess their well-being and offer assistance. Checklists are available for people who want to prepare for possible disasters.
The association also sponsors summer camp programs for children, ages 6 to 17, who have neuromuscular disorders. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call or write in for information or to apply. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees for services.
