Emergency Road Service

Emergency Road Service

Provider: LOS ANGELES COUNTY METROPOLITAN TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY - ADMINISTRATION

The agency provides transportation services for residents of Los Angeles County via the Metro Bus and Metro Rail transit systems. Services include a customer relations office which investigates general complaints on Metro Bus and Metro Rail service, discount transit passes, lost and found services, mass transit services, maps, monthly passes, printed materials, safety outreach programs, emergency road service, specialized information, referral and toll roads/bridge passes, and ride app services. There are no geographic restrictions.

The information center provides information about local bus and rail routes. Printed materials such as timetables, informational brochures, and grid maps are also available.

The LIFE discount program is available for qualified low-income individuals. It provides fare subsidies that may be applied toward the purchase of passes on Metro or any LIFE participating transit agencies OR a free 20-regional ride option.

Reduced fares and fareless passes are also available to qualified students in kindergarten through 12th grade, college and vocational school.

A toll-free disabled riders hotline provides information about accessible services; staff notify drivers when passengers who use wheelchairs have called about waiting on bus routes. The international symbol of access appears near the front or rear doors of lift-equipped buses and applicable bus stops. ID cards for people who have physical, mental, or developmental disabilities are available for applicants who have a qualifying disability. The hotline also accepts complaints; callers must provide the line number, coach number, date and time of the incident, direction of travel, and a description of the problem.

The MTA also constructs rail transit facilities, coordinates building of carpool lanes and bikeways, and other related activities.

Freeway Service Patrol (FSP) provides non-emergency vehicle assistance for motorists in order to alleviate traffic congestion. People may use their cell phones and dial (511) or freeway call boxes to summon roadside assistance. Services include changing flat tires, jumpstarting cars, refilling radiators and taping leaky hoses, or putting a gallon of fuel into gas tanks. If FSP cannot get the car running within ten minutes, it will tow the car to a safe drop location off the freeway. FSP cannot tow vehicles to private repair facilities or residences or recommend service companies.
