Ethnic Advocacy Groups

Ethnic Advocacy Groups

Provider: CATALYST CALIFORNIA

The project provides national and local public awareness/education for people of all ages in the United States. This is a community action/social advocacy group that works to promote system change; there are no direct individual services. Services include education advocacy, community action/social advocacy groups, and ethnic advocacy. There are no geographic restrictions.

The project works to identify and eliminate barriers to educational achievement among minority students. Staff partner with community-based organizations to build multi-racial campaigns for K-12 schools; the California office focuses on the Los Angeles Unified School District. Staff also work to identify and eliminate school disciplinary measures that sometimes lead to the criminal prosecution of children.

The People's City Project works to improve modern-day housing policies in communities with a high number of low-income families. The project also analyzes stimulus spending in minority communities to ensure equity.

The Urban Peace project works to reduce youth and gang violence by advocating for prevention.

The Health Equity program brings about change in the wellbeing of low-income people of color who suffer disproportionately from chronic health conditions and other health outcomes.
