Event Setup/Cleanup Volunteer Opportunities

Event Setup/Cleanup Volunteer Opportunities

Provider: SOUTH ASIAN NETWORK

The agency provides volunteer opportunities to South Asians who live in Los Angeles County. Volunteer opportunities include advocacy ombudsman volunteer opportunities, event set up/clean up volunteer opportunities, fundraising volunteer opportunities, language interpretation/translation volunteer opportunities, medical care volunteer opportunities, pro bono legal aid volunteer opportunities, and public speaking volunteer opportunities. There are no geographic restrictions.

Fundraising event volunteers help plan, organize and staff fundraising activities.

Individual/group advocacy volunteers work as victims advocates to assist South Asian women and children who are victims of domestic violence by accompanying them to court appearances, meetings with lawyers, language assistance and to the offices of the Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) and to answer help line calls.

Language translation/interpretation volunteers must be fluent in one or more South Asian languages. Volunteers help clients with translation or interpretation on telephone calls, or to translate educational material for Hate Crimes, Domestic Violence and Health Assistance into several South Asian Languages.

The agency seeks doctors, lawyers and mental health professionals to volunteer their time as medical care volunteers and pro bono legal aid volunteers.

Public speaking volunteers conduct awareness and prevention education in the various South Asian communities for issues like breast cancer, tobacco, HIV/AIDS, low cost health insurance and other related issues that South Asian communities face. Volunteers will be expected to be involved in advocacy and education for the various South Asian Communities. Outreach and education campaigns are conducted to help South Asians recognize a hate crime or hate incident and inform them of their rights and resources as a victim of a hate crime incident.

The agency provides a two hour orientation and on-the-job training. Volunteers are not asked to pay any fees or take any tests. The agency does not complete background checks and volunteers are not asked to commit to a set length of service to the agency. LANGUAGES OTHER THAN ENGLISH Volunteers are not required to speak any language other than English, however, the agency seeks bilingual volunteers.
