Infant Care Centers

Infant Care Centers

Provider: ELLA FITZGERALD CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER

The agency provides child care services for parents in South Central Los Angeles. It operates five full-day child development centers for parents who are working or going to school or job training. Services include child care, infant care, and preschools. The agency also provides funding for child care for at-risk families in Los Angeles County. There are no geographic restrictions.

The programs serve children from age 18 months to age 5. The centers give priority to children who have been abused or neglected or are at risk and who are referred by L A County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) or another protective social service agency. The agency also conducts a home-based care program. The program provides in-home counseling, parenting education and support services.

Drew Child Development Corporation Early Education Centers provide child care for low-income parents who are working, seeking employment, in a vocational training program, or are medically incapacitated. The services include an infant/toddler program for children from the age of 18 months. The preschool mainstreams developmentally disabled children into its sessions. Drew CDC is the South Central Los Angeles Child Care and Development Center. It also accepts referrals for developmentally disabled children from Regional Centers and the LAUSD.

The Early Intervention Program provides in-home and center-based programs to help families with young children, age birth to 18 months, that have special needs. The program serves families that have children with developmental disabilities who live in the City of Los Angeles. Referrals are taken from Regional Centers and the LAUSD Infant/Preschool Program. Center-base services are provided at the agency's 92nd St. and Maie location. The program provides group infant stimulation sessions, physical therapy consultations in the home, parent training and education and parent support groups. The toddler program works with children, age 18 months to 3 years, in which developmentally disabled children can be mainstreamed into child development programs at the agency's CDC's. Family support and education continues throughout the program.

The program administers the "Alternative Payment Program" which provides child care in the form of child care payments to licensed family day care homes or day care centers. Assistance is provided for 6 months to 18 years, and is restricted to families who live in zip codes 90011, 90003, 90059, 90061. The Alternative Payment Program provides subsidies to CalWORKs participants who are working, seeking employment, attending school or participating in a GAIN educational program. The parent may choose any one of the following child care options: a child care center, a licensed before/after school program, a licensed family day care home, the child's relative caregiver (such as a grandparent, aunt) or even a friend who would serve only one family. Eligibility requirements include income at or below the federal poverty level, and children under age 13. The first two stages of the APP program provide child care subsidy for a period of 24 months. The program can continue after the CalWORK's participant is off cash aid, under Stage 3 of the APP program. The continued child care subsidy is based on the parent's income and the age of the child. APPLICATION PROCEDURE A referral is required from DCFS or other child welfare agency for Early Intervention. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees for services.
