Legal Counseling ( Older Adults )

The center provides services for older adults, age 50 and older who live in San Dimas and the surrounding areas. Services include congregate meals/nutrition sites, general paratransit/community ride programs, home delivered meals, legal counseling, multipurpose centers, patient rights assistance, peer counseling, recreational activities/sports, senior centers, and tax information. Age restrictions apply; geographic restrictions apply for some services.

Services available for seniors include the AARP Drive Safety Program and AARP Express Program; and health assessments for blood pressure and hearing clinic.

Community Senior Services (CSS) provides senior peer counseling, companion program, support groups and a senior helpline which provides information about and referral to all types of local services; Long Term Care Ombudsman program which provides advocacy for residents in nursing homes and community care facilities; legal counseling; tax assistance e-File only offered by AARP; transportation services; social groups and a senior citizen club.

The hot lunch program is provided five days a week for seniors age 60 and older. Advance reservations are required.

There is also a Meals-On-Wheels program which delivers hot lunches to homebound qualified San Dimas and La Verne residents and a Home Delivered Meals program which delivers frozen meals to eligible seniors.

Legal counseling is available third Friday of each month for seniors, pre-registration is required; legal services are free.

The classes offered by the center include physical fitness, computer classes, health, watercolors, Pinochle, Bridge, Cribbage, China painting, crafts, fabric painting, ceramics, needle point, calligraphy, quilting, writing, and mature driving. The writing class is taught by senior citizens who are publishing their works. The mature driving class can assist older adults to earn a discount on car insurance. Seniors may also participate in ballroom dancing, field trips, seasonal activities, a senior citizen club, and making arts and crafts items to sell in the boutique. APPLICATION PROCEDURE People may call or walk in to the Senior center for information about services. Appointments are required for many of the services and reservations are requested for the hot lunch. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees for information and referral, health assessments, employment assistance, legal counseling, tax assistance, classes, volunteer opportunities, or the newsletter. There are dues for the senior citizen club and fees for trips. The donation for the hot lunch is $3 for individuals 60yrs and older, $5 for individuals under 60yrs. There may be fees for other programs or activities, call for information. Some programs require pre-registration.
