Nutrition Education ( Pregnant Women )

During the COVID-19 pandemic, WIC services are available online and by telephone only. Please call Monday through Friday, between 8:30am and 5:00pm. WIC benefits are available to all eligible families affected by COVID-19. If your income has been affected by recent events, and you are pregnant or have a child under age 5, WIC can help provide nutritious foods and more resources to keep your growing family healthy.

This is a supplemental nutrition program that provides food vouchers and nutrition education for pregnant women, new and/or breastfeeding mothers, infants, and children younger than age five who live in Alhambra, Anaheim, Arcadia, Artesia, Avalon, Azusa, Baldwin Park, Bel Air, Bellflower, Beverly Hills, Carson, Cerritos, Claremont, Commerce, Covina, Culver City, Cypress, Diamond Bar, Duarte, Downtown Los Angeles, East Los Angeles, Echo Park, El Monte, El Segundo, Fullerton, Gardena, Glendora, Harbor City, Hawaiian Gardens, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach, Huntington Beach, Inglewood, Irwindale, La Habra, La Mirada, La Puente, La Verne, Lakewood, Lawndale, Lennox, Lomita, Malibu, Manhattan Beach, Monrovia, Montebello, Monterey Park, Norwalk, Ocean Park, Pacific Palisades, Palos Verdes, Playa del Rey, Pomona, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills, Rosemead, Rowland Heights, San Dimas, San Gabriel, San Marino, San Pedro, Santa Ana, Santa Fe Springs, Santa Monica, Signal Hill, South El Monte, Temple City, Torrance, Venice, Walnut, West Covina, West Los Angeles Westchester, Whittier, Wilmington, parts of Hollywood, and eligible persons who are receiving health care from Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, H. Claude Hudson Comprehensive Health Center, and Los Angeles County University of Southern California Medical Center. Eligible applicants must meet federal low-income guidelines and have been determined to be at nutritional risk by a health professional. When funding is decreased, services are offered based on priority, contact office for eligibility determination.

The program provides vouchers that are redeemed at authorized stores for specified foods such as fruit, vegetables, Milk, (Cow's milk, lactose-free milk, and soy milk available), eggs, beans, peanut butter, whole grains (tortillas, pasta, oatmeal, bread, brown rice, cereals, barley and bulgur), breakfast cereal, yogurt, cheese, 100% juice, tofu, canned fish, baby food, infant cereal, and infant formula. The WIC food package will vary based on participant age and other factors. Vouchers are issued monthly and must be used within 30 days.

The 2020 WIC Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) is now available on a first come, first served basis. While supplies last, eligible WIC participants may receive an additional $28 to spend at the farmers' market. Checks must be used by November 30, 2020; checks cannot be exchanged for cash. Lost or stolen checks will not be replaced.

Participants of the WIC program also receive regular nutrition education and one-on-one counseling with WIC counselors who can make individualized referrals and screenings for immunization, Medi-Cal, CalFresh, and more.
If eligibility continues, women may participate in WIC for as long as six months after their baby is born or up to one year if they are breastfeeding. Infants and children may participate until age five.

Lactation assistance and breastfeeding support groups are available; access to free electric breast pumps is available for parents who qualify. LANGUAGES OTHER THAN ENGLISH Spanish, Arabic, Armenian, Cantonese, Korean, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Russian. Services in American Sign Language and other languages are offered via a medical translation service.
