Nutrition Education ( Pregnant Women )

Provider: CITY OF PASADENA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH - BLACK INFANT HEALTH PROGRAM

Services and hours may have been affected due to Coronavirus. Please call for more information.

The program provides WIC services for eligible pregnant women, new and/or breastfeeding mothers, infants and children younger than age five who live in the Pasadena area. Services include breast pumps, breastfeeding support programs, food vouchers, nutrition education, and WIC. Services are restricted to residents of Altadena, Pasadena, Sierra Madre, and South Pasadena.

WIC is a supplemental food program that provides food vouchers and nutrition education. Eligible applicants meet federal low-income guidelines and have been determined to be at nutritional risk by a health professional; they may include undocumented women.

The program provides vouchers that are redeemed at authorized stores for specified foods such as milk, eggs, cheese, juice, peanut butter, beans and infant formula. Vouchers are issued monthly and must be used within 30 days.

Participants also receive regular medical assessments.

If eligibility continues, women may participate in WIC for as long as six months after their baby is born or up to one year if they are breastfeeding, or earlier, if the nutritional problem is resolved.

Infants and children may participate until age five unless the nutritional problem is solved first. APPLICATION PROCEDURE To apply for WIC, Call 1-888-942-9675 or visit https://www.phfewic.org/how-wic-works/apply-for-wic/.

A medical referral, attesting to pregnancy or nutritional risk, is required, as are proof of income and residence. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees for service.
