Occasional Emergency Food Assistance
Provider: CENTRO SANTO TOMAS
Services are provided on the first three Saturdays of the month. People who are homeless or undocumented are eligible for service. People who receive government assistance are served only in an emergency. Food recipients may participate in the center's holiday assistance program.
Medical examination services are provided on a very limited basis by a volunteer physician during the food distribution times.
The contents of the bag of groceries varies, but may include canned goods, staple food items, powered milk, butter and eggs. Occasionally, personal items such as soap are available. Each family receives about 50 lbs. of food. Individuals and families with fewer than three children may be served one time per month. Families with three or more children may be served two times per month. People who live outside the service area will be served one time only and be given a referral to a food agency closer to their residence. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Walk in for service. ID for all family members and proof of residence are required. ID is not required for homeless people. Each applicant is visited by the director to determine need. Intake and distribution hours depend on the type of family served. Applicants are given a number as they arrive and food is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no food distribution on fourth Saturday or the fifth Saturday when one occurs. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees for service.
