Occasional Emergency Food Assistance

Provider: CITY OF LAKEWOOD RECREATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICES - BURNS COMMUNITY CENTER

The program provides several food programs for people who live in Lakewood. Services include an emergency food program called Project Shepherd, and a brown bag program for seniors, age 60 and older. Services are restricted to Lakewood residents.

Project Shepherd provides a box of groceries with enough canned and packaged dry goods to last for several days. Food is given every two to three months.

The Senior Brown Bag program provides twice a month food distribution to low-income seniors. This distribution occurs at the Weingart Senior Center. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call to apply. An appointment is required; referring agencies call one day ahead. ID for all family members and proof of residence are required.

Seniors who apply for the Brown Bag program must be low income. Monthly income cannot exceed $1,700 a month for couples and $688 a month for singles. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees for service.
