Provider: NEIGHBORHOOD LEGAL SERVICES OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY

The program provides health-related advocacy, information and referral, and legal services for low-income Los Angeles County residents through the Health Consumer Center of Los Angeles project. There are no geographic restrictions.

The project, helps people who experience difficulty in obtaining government health benefits such as Medi-Cal and Medicare. Services include advocacy at DPSS and Social Security offices; forms assistance; health insurance and Medi-Care counseling; legal representation, including accompaniment and/or representation at fair hearings and state appeals; and patients rights assistance. Additionally, the program will advocate on behalf of clients with outstanding medical bills to negotiate debt reduction or forgiveness and link clients with other resources that may assist with medical bill payments.

The program provides health-related specialized information and referral which includes information about health care programs for low-income people, and telephone advocacy to help people obtain needed services.

It promotes awareness of health care rights through outreach to low-income communities. LANGUAGES OTHER THAN ENGLISH Armenian, Cambodian, Cantonese, Mandarin, Spanish and Vietnamese; additional languages available through AT&T language line.
