Personal Financial Counseling

Personal Financial Counseling

Provider: LOS ANGELES COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF CONSUMER AND BUSINESS AFFAIRS - ADMINISTRATION

The Los Angeles County Financial Navigators program is designed to help residents deal with the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, providing remote assistance in navigating critical financial issues and making referrals to other social services and resources.

Trained financial navigators will provide structured guidance over the phone that will help residents prioritize financial concerns and mitigate disruptions to their cashflow. They are not long-term counselors who provide financial advice and they cannot provide direct financial assistance like cash or loans.

Financial navigators can assist with:

- Information about resources available to community members
- Triaging financial issues
- Identifying immediate action steps
- Providing referrals to other resources and supports including free income tax preparation assistance - Responding to consumer scams

The session is free and may last up to 30 minutes. Topics may include prioritizing payments, maximizing income, managing debt and avoiding scams.
