Provider: CITY OF LONG BEACH DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES - WEST FACILITIES CENTER

The department provides health services for residents of Long Beach and the surrounding communities. Services include case/care management for children with lead poisoning, CHDP exams and referrals, childhood/school immunizations, family planning services, flu shots, general physical examinations, health education, sport/camp physicals, nutrition education, prenatal care, refugee health screenings, TB screening and well-baby care.

Also available is the Long Beach Travel Clinic which provides information and vaccinations for travel abroad.

Prenatal care programs include the Perinatal Outreach and Education program, which provides pregnancy verification, prenatal care, referrals to low-cost health care and enrollment services for Medi-Cal and temporary Medi-Cal for low-income women.

CHDP provides regular, preventive health assessments and developmental assessments for children from birth to age 21 who are Medi-Cal eligible and for children from birth through age 18 whose family income is less than 200% of the federal poverty level. The check-ups are offered at set intervals and may include the required Head Start or State Preschool and pre-first grade exams.

The Role of Men Academy (ROMA) highlights the importance of father/child bonding, and provides education and case management services for expectant fathers and fathers of young children. Participating fathers receive parenting skills training, child development education, legal and financial issue assistance, assistance completing or continuing their education and employment preparation assistance.

Health education and prevention programs are provided through the department's Miller Family Health Education Center (see the separate entry). APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call to apply or for information. An appointment is required. Walk in for TB screening and immunizations. For the Long Beach Travel Clinic an appointment is required. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are fixed fees. Medi-Cal, Medicare, and some private insurances are accepted. Long Beach Travel Clinic office visit is $30 and the vaccine ranges from $12 to $75. Pregnancy tests are $10 for women enrolled in HMO's; the test is free for low-income women.
