Provider: LOS ANGELES HOMELESS SERVICES AUTHORITY

The authority acts as a community action group which plans, administers and monitors funding for the alleviation of homelessness for community-based organizations throughout Los Angeles County. THE AGENCY DOES NOT PROVIDE DIRECT SERVICES TO INDIVIDUALS. Services include charities/foundations/fund raising organizations, planning/coordinating/advisory groups, public awareness education, organizational development and management services, outreach programs, technical assistance and research. Services are restricted to Los Angeles County, excluding the cities of Glendale, Long Beach, Pasadena and Santa Monica.

Programs include the Winter Shelter Program, Homeless Access Centers, Los Angeles Downtown Drop-In Center and the Emergency Response Team.

The Winter Shelter Program operates during the cold and wet winter months. Shelter providers are contracted to provide additional shelter beds during excessive weather. See the separate entry.

The Access Centers (Day Centers) serve as one-stop shops for homeless people with multiple needs. The centers are contracted and operated by community-based agencies and are located in Hollywood, Central Los Angeles, East Los Angeles, South Central Los Angeles, Pacoima, Glendale, Long Beach and Santa Monica. The Los Angeles Downtown Drop-In Center is operated by Volunteers of America and is designed to provide a safe environment and to prepare homeless people to enter emergency shelter or transitional housing. See the separate entry.

The Emergency Response Team assists local governments in linking homeless people with community supportive services and housing.

Homeless systems analysts provide technical assistance to organizations and programs serving homeless populations throughout Los Angeles County, including single adults, families, veterans and transitional aged youth (TAY).
