Provider: LOS ANGELES COUNTY COMMISSION FOR WOMEN

The agency provides community action groups services to individuals in Los Angeles County. Services include planning/coordinating/advisory groups, public awareness/education, specialized information and referral, and women's advocacy groups. There are no geographic restrictions.

The commission represents the specific interests and concerns of women to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. It is composed of 15 members, three appointed by each supervisor, who represent the full range of race, ethnicity, social background and circumstance, religious conviction and sexual preference of women in the county.

The commission studies problems that women encounter, especially those related to prejudice and/or discrimination against women based on sex, marital status, or sexual preference. It also studies the need for and makes recommendations about the development of new or expanded services for women and changes in laws or procedures that affect women.

The commission advises the Board of Supervisors, county departments, and other agencies on the needs of women and prejudicial or discriminatory issues; disseminates information about practices or conditions which are oppressive; and serves as a coordinating body for county departments, community groups, and other organizations concerned with women's rights.

The commission staff can provide phone information and referrals to women's resources. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call, write or walk in for information. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees for most services.
