The agency provides recreational programs for people of all ages, including people who have disabilities, children, youth, adults and older adults who live in Santa Monica. Services include arts and crafts instruction, computer and related technology classes, day camps, parks recreation areas, personal enrichment for youth, physical fitness, recreational activities/sports, recreational/leisure/arts instruction, special events, and travel. There are geographic restrictions for some services.

The department also administers public art and cultural festivals, park development and maintenance, community forest management, the Annenberg Community Beach House and the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. In addition, program staff help organize and promote the Westside Special Olympics which are held through out the year for youth and adults with developmental disabilities.

Youth activities include arts and crafts, boxing, summer day camp, computers, creative dramatics, gardening, gym, karate, tutoring, tennis lessons, sports leagues, swimming and special events. Team activities include ski trips, organized sports leagues, games and an evening drop-in program.

The agency also offers a special program of planned and supervised activities for youth age 8 years and older who have developmental disabilities. Participants in this program take trips, visit public attractions, use public transportation, and participate in various social programs.

Adult activities include art, dance, fitness, gym sports, music, swimming, tennis, volleyball, and yoga. Adult sports programs include basketball, softball, tennis, and volleyball leagues and tournaments. A reservation program is also available for athletic fields, gym, public facilities and tennis courts. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call or visit city parks, libraries or department offices for a copy of the newsletter "Seascape" which is published quarterly and describes the classes and registration procedures and includes an application. Registration procedures vary by program. Scholarships may be available for youth programs. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE The fees for specific programs and services vary. There is no fee for information or a newsletter.
