Speech and Language Pathology ( Youth )

Provider: MOMENTUM

The agency provides special education services for people with developmental disabilities for infants and youth, from birth to 21 years, who have developmental disabilities or are at risk for having a special need. Services include day camps, developmental assessment, Early Head Start, early intervention for children with disabilities/delays, educational therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, sensory integration therapy, and speech and language pathology. The agency operates independent living and residential facilities for adults. Geographic restrictions apply for some services.

Therapy is multi-disciplinary; each child has an individualized course of therapy, which may be available at the clinic, in the client's home or in a school setting. The program is based on the sensory integration methods of A. Jean Ayres. The program is family-centered and provides family support for the parents of the special needs child.

The Early Head Start program is for at-risk children, age birth to age three, and is restricted to zip codes 90501, 90503, and 90505. The agency has both center-based services and home-based services dependent on the child's needs and age. Priority is given to low-income families, based on Federal Poverty guidelines.

The Leaps and Bounds program provides early intervention services for children, age 18 months to 3 years. The program incorporates language development, oral-motor stimulation, cognitive development, gross and fine motor skills development, and social interaction. The program serves children at risk for developmental delay, but also enrolls normally developing children to serve as role models for skills development and foster positive social interactions.

The Buddy Club provides an after-school social skills program for at risk children from age 4 to 13 years.

Camp Escapades is a two-week day camp experience for children with special needs, age 5 to 14 years. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call to schedule an appointment. People may be referred by physicians, Regional Center or school districts.

Multiple agencies may provide Early Head Start services within a given zip code. In such cases, the agencies will only serve a part of the zip code. Individuals must call all the agencies providing services within a zip code to determine which agency serves their exact address. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are fixed fees that may be covered by Regional Center or school districts. Self pay services are paid at a fixed fee for the early intervention programs such as Leaps and Bounds. Individual therapy is also a fixed fee; Early Head Start participation is based on eligibility criteria; call for more information. A variety of PPO and HMO insurance health plans are accepted.
