The center provides services for older adults age 60 and older and services are restricted to parts of Canoga Park, Chatsworth, Granada Hills, Mission Hills and Northridge residents. Activities are available to all seniors regardless of where they live. The center is unable to accommodate people who are homeless. Services include specialized information and referral, advocacy, congregate meals/nutrition sites, legal counseling, support groups, tax assistance, counseling, recreational classes and activities, and health services. In addition, the center provides case management services for the frail elderly.

Center staff provide phone and in-person information about all types of resources and services which seniors may utilize and can also refer seniors to specific resources in the community. Staff can also provide advocacy to help seniors obtain the government benefits to which they may be entitled. In addition, legal counseling is available at the center. Individual peer counseling sessions for seniors are available. There is also a senior growth and support group.

The center offers a number of activities which assist seniors to maintain good health. Physical fitness classes are available as well as health education and nutrition education sessions and blood pressure screening. Seniors may also participate in a number of recreational and educational classes like Spanish, dance, domestic arts, and a variety of arts and crafts. They may also join the trip club which offers day and overnight travel opportunities.

The case management program serves frail, homebound seniors, 60 years of age and older. The goal of the program is to prevent premature placement of a senior in any type of institution, and to permit them to live independently in their own home. The program is based on a comprehensive assessment of the individual's needs, usually done in the client's home. A plan is then developed to help link the senior with the appropriate services and resources. Monitoring and follow-up is provided to assure the needs are being met.

The center houses a congregate meal program. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call or walk in for information. An appointment is required for legal counseling. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees for information and referral. The suggested donation for the congregate meal is $1.75 for those 60 and over. Non senior meal fee is $8.10. There is a suggested donation of $1.00 for advocacy, legal counseling and individual or group counseling. The suggested donation for tax assistance during tax season is $10. All classes have a suggested donation of $2.00.
