Telephone Reassurance

Provider: CITY OF CLAREMONT SENIOR PROGRAM - JOSLYN CENTER

The program provides services for adults age 55 years and older who live in the Pomona Valley area. Services include case management for older adults, mature driving classes, mutual support groups, tax assistance, telephone reassurance, recreational and social activities, specialized information and referral, and volunteer opportunities. There are no geographic restrictions for most services; however, some services are limited to Claremont residents.

The Claremont Senior Program offers case management services for Claremont residents. Services may include an evaluation of the senior's needs, linkages with appropriate services, and monitoring of the delivery and effectiveness of services.

Mutual support groups that meet at the center include health related groups for arthritis; bereavement; blindness and visual handicaps; Overeaters Anonymous; Parkinson's Disease and a caregiver support group.

Recreation programs include games, classes in computer literacy, current events, painting and drawing, photography, physical fitness, knitting, and other classes. Excursions are planned by bus to many areas in the local community. Special social activities and forums on topics of interest are also offered.

Tax assistance is provided during tax season; volunteers assist seniors in filling out their income tax forms.

Telephone assurance provides regular phone contacts to ensure the safety of the older adult and to reduce the isolation of people whose ability to leave their home is limited.

Transportation is provided free to the Center through the Get About Transportation program; see the separate entry for details. Also available is the Claremont Dial-A-Ride which is available to Claremont residents; see the separate entry for details.

Specialized Senior Information and Referral services is provided for adults age 55 and older. Services include information about a range of senior's concerns and linkages with other community social services. Volunteer opportunities for seniors are also provided in many center programs. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call or walk in for information or to register. Many services are available on a walk-in basis; however, some require appointments.
