Transitional Housing/Shelter ( Former Foster Children, Families With Children )
Provider: SALVATION ARMY WESTWOOD TRANSITIONAL VILLAGE
The agency provides shelter services for homeless veteran and non-veteran families and former foster children with families in the West Los Angeles area. Services include transitional housing/shelter. A referral is required from the short-term transitional or emergency shelter or other community based organization. Services are restricted to people on the Westside.
The Village campus contains six buildings including 40 apartments, offices, a community center for support services, and a child care center for 18 month to 5 years olds. Support services for residents are provided onsite by cooperating community organizations that provide counseling, education, recreation, and medical services to residents. Families are case managed until they reach a stage of self sufficiency and acquire a savings plan to allow them to live independently. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Intake for shelter is conducted by St. Joseph Center. Call St. Joseph Center to apply and to determine eligibility; a phone number must be provided during intake. After determining the families' eligibility, they will be informed what documentation is required. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE Families are required to pay rent that is 30% of their income, and also are required to put money into a mandatory savings account for their future housing needs.
