Water Safety Education
Provider: AMERICAN RED CROSS - GREATER LONG BEACH CHAPTER
The agency provides health education services for people in the greater Long Beach area. Services include classes in CPR instruction, first aid instruction, job training formats for Nurse Assistant, safety education programs for youth and water safety education. Long Beach Chapter serves people who live in Artesia, Avalon, Bellflower, Cerritos, Gardena, Hawthorne, Hawaiian Gardens, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lakewood, Lomita, Long Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Paramount, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills Estates, San Pedro, Signal Hill and Torrance and Wilmington. Rio Hondo Chapter serves Bell, Bell Gardens, Commerce, Downey, La Habra Heights, La Mirada, Los Nietos, Montebello, Norwalk, Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs, Vernon and Whittierareas.
The Nurse Assistant Training Program prepares adults, 18 and older to work as Certified Nurse Assistants after passing the State Competancy Examination, which is given directly after completion of the course. To qualify for the program, students must pass a physical examination.
Community education opportunities are available for the general public include classes in first aid, CPR, HIV awareness, safety education programs for youth and water safety education. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call, walk in, or visit the agency's website for information or to apply for service. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are fixed fees for health education classes. The Nurse Assistant Training fee is $1,500. It includes nursing tools such as stethoscope, blood pressure cuff and uniforms, the fee for taking the state Competancy Test and all training materials.
