WIOA Programs ( TANF Recipients )

Provider: SANTA MONICA COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT - OFFICE OF WORKFORCE AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

The college provides employment services for people who live, primarily, in the Santa Monica area, however, there are no geographic restrictions. Services include computer classes, job bank, job search/placement, WIOA programs and welfare recipient employment programs and work-study programs. WIOA programs include Title IIA5% for adults, age 55 and older, and Title III for displaced workers. Age and income restrictions apply for some programs.

The program provides computer classes in Microsoft Office. The classes are seven weeks in length and cover all components in the Microsoft Office software, including Windows, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook. The program also provides a general keyboarding class.

In addition, the office provides a job bank and job search/placement services for CalWORKs recipients. Services include welfare recipient employment programs for CalWORKs eligible students, prejob guidance, job training and work study programs for TANF recipients.

The program provides case management, educational assessment, educational and career planning, a broad range of training and vocational education programs and job development and placement services. The campus has strong support from local business and industry.

Work-Study programs for TANF and GR recipients provide part-time employment of up to 20 hours per week, for full-time (12 units) students. The program pays 75% of the students' wages for a period of six months. If the employer is unwilling to pay full wages after this time period expires, the student may be given a new job assignment. A CalWORKs participant may receive Work-Study assistance for a period of two years, while in school.

Support services also include child care, health and psychological support services, and referrals to community services. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call or walk in to apply. WIOA participants must provide documentation of eligibility. A referral is required for CalWORKs programs. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees for service.
