Statement by 211 LA County regarding the signing of SB 1212 by California Governor Jerry Brown
September 30th 2016
On behalf of 211 LA County, the 211 California Network and partner organizations throughout the state, we thank Senator Ben Hueso and Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, the California Legislature and Governor Jerry Brown for their commitment to providing much needed telephone referral services in areas where they do not currently exist.
SB 1212 takes the next step in developing a statewide 211 disaster response network and closes the gap in 211 coverage to provide access for underserved populations in California that do not currently have 211 service. It clearly illustrates the importance of 211 information and referral services during times of emergency and makes eligible the 211 network for state funding. This bill lays the groundwork for statewide coordination and funding to ensure all residents of California can access this critical service regardless of the region from which they are calling.
"This investment sends a clear message of the importance of having statewide access to 2-1-1 services for supporting community resilience and recovery during times of disaster" said Maribel Marin, the Executive Director of 211 LA County and President of 211 California.
